Chatting online safely
Chatting online with strangers can be fun but also dangerous and unpleasant. Be very cautious online and if you ever feel uncomfortable just disconnect.
Keep the following tips in mind to increase safety:
- Never reveal your real name.
- Never reveal your location.
- Never show or share anything you don't want anyone else to find out.
- You can, and likely will, be recorded by the other person. Never show anything you don't want anyone else to see.
- Webcams can be faked. Ask the other person to make a gesture with their hand to ensure you are talking to a real person. (Choose something else than waving!)
- The 'Stranger is using a virtual webcam'-message is not flawless. Always ask for proof.
- If anything ever bad happens, go to the police.
